Suzuki & traditional violin training in Houston, TX
Learn violin with Miss Betty
Personalized, technique-first violin instruction for students ages 4 through adult, from the very first note to concert-ready repertoire.
A lifetime with the violin, shared one student at a time
Betty Liang Spahr began studying violin at age five and went on to major in Violin Performance at the University of Texas at Austin under Vincent Frittelli. As an original member of the Texas Young Virtuosos, she performed internationally, including at the Paris Conservatory and Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, and spent eight years touring and recording with the string quartet Mozart's Monkeys. She has also performed with the UT Symphony and the Houston Civic Symphony.
Since 1993, Miss Betty has run her own private violin studio, blending the Suzuki method with traditional classical repertoire and a technique she has refined over decades of teaching, one that introduces sight-reading from the very first lesson. She previously served as an Elementary Violin Specialist at two Houston-area schools, and her goal with every student is the same: build real technique, real confidence on stage, and a lifelong love of music.
